At The Salt Mine, we are thankful to have partnerships with many people and organizations in our community, including city leaders and even William Jessup University.
We have established a semester-long partnership with William Jessup University, in which their nursing students are volunteering at The Salt Mine Food Closet as a part of their Community Health Certificate. Nursing students will assist in various volunteer roles that help enhance community health. This includes a unique focus on assisting our unhoused neighbors. When a William Jessup instructor is on site, the nursing students will even be able to administer limited general wound care and give health assessments if necessary. Throughout this semester and future partnerships, students will help us evaluate how we can meet the community health needs of our neighbors. We believe this is a huge step towards ensuring our community thrives.
We are excited for this partnership, as it begins our exploration into creating a sustainable resource for our unhoused neighbors to receive minor and general care. We will offer this care alongside our other homeless resources (shower, laundry, and food services). We began considering this partnership with William Jessup nearly a year ago, and now we are taking the first steps towards a sustainable community health program. As always, we have included the City of Lincoln in our decision-making process and have considered how our actions will benefit the entire community.
These additional resources help accomplish our goals to keep our neighbors fed and to take care of those in need. Our desire for our local unhoused neighbors is for them to receive proper care that will facilitate their recovery and help them move to a better place in life. The Salt Mine welcomes partnerships like this one with William Jessup University that will serve our neighbors well!
Our efforts to ensure our community thrives do not happen without your financial support. Donate today by making a one-time donation or setting up a recurring donation. It’s because of your generosity that we are able to continue helping our neighbors.
